Why is puppetry one of the most valuable resources for teaching a new language in primary schools? Puppetry provides the teacher with a wide range of different types of puppets that are very useful for several purposes within the educational context.
The language of puppetry is a universal language; no matter what your background is that everyone enjoys, understands and reacts. This unique art can communicate without saying a word; it is the language of movements and touch. The first relationships of the infant with objects are crucial for the child’s development. The puppet would be later the surrogate object which helps the child to learn a new language.
By using puppets we could increase the four skills of a language: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Moreover, puppetry could help to enrich other competences of the existing curriculum. Puppetry is an ancient art form with a remarkable quality of live contact with the audience, who are fully involved and stimulated into their creative thinking.
